"Builder's Club"

social skills, autism, playgroup, adhd

Builder's club is based on a Lego Therapy Model (structured play group) and is most appropriate for highly verbal learners ages 8+. Students are grouped according to age and need. Builder Teams consist of 3 members with each member being assigned a role as builder, supplier or architect. In club, we work on communicating effectively with partners, demonstrating patience, managing frustration, giving and accepting feedback and other targets that present themselves naturally based on group dynamic. Instructors provide prompts and reinforcement throughout. Data is collected on skill targets and progress reported each class.

"Chatty Crafters"

"Chatty Crafters" is a program designed for learners in Pre-k through grade 2. The program is designed to target various social and language skills through art including making requests for necessary items, attending to and following directions in a group, waiting, turn taking, sharing with peers, accepting feedback, asking for help, tolerating mistakes, managing frustration and giving compliments. Additional skills may be targeted dependent upon group dynamic. Instructors provide prompts and reinforcement throughout. Data is collected on skill targets and progress reported each class.

Advanced Interactions Social Groups are most appropriate for learners ages 13+ who are struggling to initiate and maintain friendships. A social target is introduced each class and participants rotate through centers to practice the skill.  Instructors utilize teaching interaction procedure which includes providing instruction on the topic, discussing rationale, modeling the skill, role playing with staff and providing feedback to participants as they work to display the skill. The emphasis is on generalization of newly acquired skills to the natural environment. This group includes dinner and walks to a local restaurant to work on independent ordering, paying, gaining attention, requesting assistance, initiating and maintaining mealtime conversation. Instructors provide prompts and reinforcement throughout. Data is collected on skill targets and progress reported each class.
